What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a relatively new dental alignment treatment that utilizes a set of clear templates
that fit over the teeth to align and shift teeth into proper positioning within the upper and lower
jaw. Invisalign treatments employ the use of clear templates custom designed for each
individual's various bite or teeth issues.
Invisalign Procedures
Customized aligners are designed according to individual dental needs, projected tooth
movement and desired results. The number of aligners any given individual may be required to
wear will depend on the situation, but typical treatments include roughly 20 to 30 aligners for
upper or lower jaw.
Invisalign treatments allow individuals to remove the template for eating and dental care such
as brushing and flossing. Treatment gradually realigns teeth through the use of trays that fit
over the teeth, which are replaced approximately every two weeks throughout the process.
Invisalign templates are nearly invisible and do not involve the use of any metal wires, brackets,
or braces on the teeth.
A dentist or orthodontist trained in the use of Invisalign system technology will offer you a
consultation to discuss your issues and desired results. Tooth impressions will be made,
followed by a process through which the dentist or orthodontist designs the Invisalign aligners
for you to wear during each stage of treatment.
Who Benefits from Invisalign?
Invisalign treatments address dental alignment problems, including widely spaced or overly
crowded teeth. Invisalign treatments also correct cross bites (upper and lower jaw lines are
misaligned due to injury, bone loss, or gum disease) and over bites (when upper teeth extend
over the lower teeth).
